On May 27th, 2006, the Cape Forchu Lightstation opened its doors for the season with a new addition, the Mug Up Tea room. The 20 seat cozy dining area in the lightkeeper’s original dining room, overlooks the Yarmouth Harbour and the Atlantic Ocean. It has welcomed tourists and many locals who have enjoyed all the home made delights that our cook, Gail, prepares from scratch – often referred to as “comfort foods.” Our home made bread pudding topped with warm caramel sauce along with our pumpkin chocolate chip muffins have become just as popular as our cold lobster sandwich served with potato chips. Countless people prefer to have us pack their lunch so that they can relax and listen to the surf at one of our many picnic tables overlooking endless seas.

Book your event today and we’ll help tailor a menu that is to your liking. Imagine an outside BBQ or roasting hot dogs on a bonfire at sunset or a lobster boil while watching the unpredictable waters crashing against the rocks. Whether you are booking a birthday party, tour group, office party, wedding or sunset dinner, the experience will be unique and memorable.

On Sunday mornings, we’ll be serving breakfast from 8:30 to 11:00.

For reservations, private bookings or to enquire about our daily specials, please contact us by phone at 742-4522 or email yarlighthouse@eastlink.ca.

We look forward to serving you by the sea!

A “Mug Up” with Friends

The term "Mug Up" was used in coastal communities by the mid-1800s to describe any snack or coffee break throughout the day or evening.

“Mug ups" were an important part of life for fishermen. They would gather and have a hearty meal and warm up whenever they could take a break.  Today, this nautical expression still describes a gathering of people for a drink and meal so join us at this beautiful ocean’s edge for a Mug Up!

Picnic Lunch

Our Picnic Lunch offers a unique experience that begins with the impressive surroundings.  Just find the perfect spot by the ocean and we’ll provide the blanket and delicious food in a basket. There are 19 acres of spectacular, well groomed grounds for you to choose from. It’s the perfect place to eat your lunch and watch brave fishermen venture to sea!
